Not losing weight? Here are some things to consider…
We do appreciate that it can be frustrating when the scales stand still, or progress is slow, but the weight loss journey can be a bit of a roller coaster ride, even for the most dedicated among us. If you are struggling to shift the pounds, or have reached a plateau, here are a few things for you to consider.
You might be doing better than you think!
Firstly, remember that it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and dropping large numbers on the scales every week isn't necessarily the best way for you to lose weight. UK Government guidelines recommend losing 1-2 lbs (roughly 0.5-1 kg) a week, for safe, sustainable weight loss. So if you are 4 pounds (just over 1.8 kg) lighter at the end of a 4 week hamper, you are not doing badly.
Everyone is different and for some people it can take a bit longer to get going. It's also completely normal to have the occasional blip, even when you are being good! Don’t be disheartened by other people losing 4-5 lbs – congratulate them and try to see it as a motivator for yourself!
Stick with the plan! Don’t use a week or two of disappointing results as an excuse to veer off diet and fall back into old, bad food habits. If you follow the meal plan, there is no reason why you shouldn't achieve some great results in the long run!
Use our BMI Calculator to find out your daily calorie allowance
Make sure you fill in the 'Free Profile and BMI Calculator' on our website homepage. When you enter your details and submit, a pop-up box will appear with a report, which details how many calories per day we recommend you have in order to achieve safe, sustainable weight loss. This report will also be emailed to you within 24 hours.
Stick to your daily calorie allowance
Once you know what your daily calorie allowance is, make sure you stick to it. This means trying not to go over your daily calorie limit – but also, ensuring you eat enough! Eating less calories than you are allowed might seem like a good way to lose a few extra pounds, but you may be shooting yourself in the foot if you trick your body into starvation mode and it starts storing fat!
Re-submit your BMI profile regularly
If you started off doing well, but your weight loss has stagnated, consider filling in the BMI Calculator again. Ideally, you should re-submit your details into the BMI Calculator on our homepage for every 7 lbs you lose, because your daily calorie allowance may well change as you get lighter.
Try mixing your fruit, vegetables & extras up!
Feel like you are doing everything right, but the pounds are clinging on stubbornly anyway? Perhaps try reviewing which fruit, vegetables and extra foods you are adding to your daily diet and mix things up a little bit? We encourage our customers to have up to five portions of fruit and vegetables each day, but there are some fruits, berries and vegetables that are higher in calories than others. You can use our online Calorie Guide to figure out the best options for you.
Move around more
The Diet Chef meal plan should be enough to help you lose weight. That said, exercise is undoubtedly good for you, and if you are not getting the weight loss results you were hoping for, moving about more could help. This could be anything from hitting the gym, doing exercise classes, or regular jogs, to going for a lunchtime walk, taking the steps instead of the lift / escalators, or cycling to the local shop, rather than driving.

Is Diet Chef suitable for you?
Whether you have a few pounds to lose, or several stone, Diet Chef can help. However – and this may be stating the obvious – our meal plan is designed to help overweight people slim down. If you are already within a healthy weight range, losing weight can be more difficult, and may not be good for you. The Free Profile and BMI Calculator on our website homepage will tell you if Diet Chef is suitable for you. Please also note that we do not recommend that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding reduce their calorie intake; if that's you, please consult your midwife, GP or other health professional and get their advice before starting a diet.
Did you know that we have a 21 day money back guarantee?
If, for whatever reason, you find that the diet just isn't for you, you have the option to cancel within 21 days of receiving your first hamper and get a full refund on the subscription you have paid. The only expense you will have to cover if you invoke the money back guarantee is the cost of sending the remaining food back to us. You would normally arrange this yourself, via a courier service of your choice (usually around £10-£20), or we can arrange for our courier partner to pick up what’s left of your hamper.
