Diet Chef partners with MyFitnessPal!

We’re delighted to announce our new partnership with MyFitnessPal (MFP), launched this month. The partnership is the first of this kind for MFP, and the first official integration with a food database.

What does this mean for our customers?

  1. All Diet Chef foods are now officially integrated into the MFP food database, offering Diet Chef customers an easier, faster way to track their foods and gain insights that help them stay on track to achieve their health goals.
  2. Customers can now link their Diet Chef accounts with their MFP accounts and track all their progress effectively in one place – from total calories consumed daily to any physical activity and exercise undertaken that day.  This provides a convenient, holistic method of tracking and monitoring progress towards achieving weight loss goals, which can help boost motivation!
  3. As our customers lose weight they tell us it inspires them to become more physically active. MFP has over 40 partners across a range of health & fitness tracking apps, which means all accounts can be linked to help customers keep on track:
  • Nearly 80% of wearables integrate with MFP, including Fitbit, Jawbone, Withings, Pulse, Samsung Galaxy Gear and Bodymedia.
  • 4 out of the top 5 GPS activity tracking apps have integrations with MFP, including Runkeeper and MapMyFitness.
  • The top Wi-Fi scales integrate with MFP, including Fitbit Aria and Withings.

What’s in it for Diet Chef?

This is hugely exciting partnership for Diet Chef as we are now able to offer new and existing customers a convenient, time saving solution for tracking calorie intake, fitness and activity levels, using MFP.

It also ensures an ongoing connection with our customers. Ideally, getting fitter and achieving / maintaining a healthy weight should become a way of life – and we want to stay with our customers throughout their journey.

Once weight loss goals have been achieved with Diet Chef, by having all their accounts linked, we can stay in touch with our customers as they progress with their healthier lifestyles.

Our aim is to increase connectivity to other health and fitness partners and help contribute to the promotion of healthier living in general.

Love food AND lose weight!

Did you know that the British Food Fortnight kicked off on the 20th of September? Across the UK, lots of people and businesses are taking part, celebrating homegrown, British produce.

We love food!

Here at Diet Chef, we are passionate about food - food is really what we are all about!

Our position is that you can eat proper meals, without excluding any food groups, and still lose weight on a healthy, balanced diet.

Everything in moderation!

We believe in the 'everything in moderation' approach to dieting, and our meal plan is designed to help people learn about portion control, which is key to sensible eating in our opinion.

On Diet Chef you get to eat things like curries, pasta, Chinese food and even a bit of chocolate - and you can expect to lose a healthy, sustainable 1-2 lbs per week*, in line with NHS recommendations for safe weight loss.

Get £100 off Diet Chef!

To mark British Food Fortnight and celebrate our own, delicious food, we are currently running a month-end offer giving new customers £100 off the first month of any Diet Chef plan!

This offer, which we will keep live up until and including Tuesday the 30th of September, means that you can get a daily breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack from as little as £85 in your first month of Diet Chef! That's just £3.04 a day, in month one!

Team Diet Chef shedtember update - week 3

Time to check in on our colleagues Catriona and Stacey again, to see how they did in week 3 of their shedtember challenge...not long to go now, ladies!

Stacey Cheung

How did you find the third week of shedtember? I found it a bit easier than the previous week, as by now, I'm starting to form better eating habits and snacking less.

Biggest challenge / slip up in the last week?
Not keeping to my exercise goals. I'm determined to stick to a work out regime in the last part of the month, to see if I can push myself that little bit closer to my goal weight loss.

Best diet moment in the last week?
I had a great weekend, diet wise, which is really good for me, as weekend indulgence is my biggest weakness!

Are you likely to keep going after September?
Definitely! My weight loss over the month so far has been slow but steady, so I hope to keep that going, then keep those pounds off when I get to my goal weight.

Weight loss in the last week?
1 lb

Total weight loss to date?
3 lbs

Catriona Liddle

How did you find the third week of shedtember?
Not so easy this last week. The weekdays were challenging due to lots of temptations in the evenings, so I had to be very good at the weekend to ensure I didn't put weight back on!

Biggest challenge / slip up in the last week?
I went out for dinner at a friend's house and just had to accept that it was a lost day!

Best diet moment in the last week?
I rediscovered cauliflower rice. Just add raw cauliflower to a blender and pulse. Steam and treat like rice for a fraction of the calories. Goes great with our curries!

Are you likely to keep going after September
Yes, definitely. I am going to try the plan until around Christmas I think.

Weight loss in the last week?
Even. No weight gain or loss. During the week I had gained a couple of pounds, so I had to balance that out by getting them back off again by the end of the week.

Total weight loss to date?
8lbs

Anything you would like to add?
I lost my way a little last week, but everyone has "blips" and I'm definitely determined to get back on track now. Tip of the week: avoid friends who love to cook dessert!

So what is shedtember?

September 2014 sees the launch of shedtember – a fundraiser that we at Diet Chef have partnered with, which will take place every September to encourage people to lose weight, while raising money for charity, including Diabetes UK.

shedtember has been created to highlight the health issues related to weight gain, the benefits of weight management, as well as to raise awareness of access to psychological and psychiatry services for people with diabetes and their close ones.

Team Diet Chef shedtember update - week 2

As you may have noticed if you read our blog regularly, our colleagues Catriona and Stacey are taking part in shedtember - a UK-wide weight loss initiative, launched this September, to help raise money for charity.

It's time for our week 2 shedtember catch-up with the ladies...let's see how they have been getting on!

Catriona Liddle

Almost halfway there! How are you holding up?
Very good I think! I've still not been at all hungry, and I'm enjoying feeling a little lighter.

Biggest challenge in the last week?
Someone sitting very close to me at lunchtime, having fish & chips...it smelled awesome, but I resisted!

Best diet moment in the last week?
See above! ;) Seriously though, I think it was committing to do the Great North Run next year, which will be a huge deal for me as I've never run anything in my life.

What would your top shedtember tip be?
Portion control, portion control, portion control! No one is going to follow a diet religiously for the rest of their life, but if you plan on the 80/20 rule (eating correct portion sizes and healthy foods at least 80% of the time) that seems like an achievable balance.

Weight loss in the last week?
4lbs

Total weight loss to date?
8lbs

Anything you would like to add?
If I can do this, anyone can. I haven't felt deprived at all, and seeing the benefits is really spurring me on to keep doing this after shedtember ends. I've had a good start, but even losing 1lb each week (which is easy, really) would mean losing  over 3.5 stone in a year. I've promised to lose weight every year and never done it...this is my year!

Stacey Cheung

Almost halfway there! How are you holding up?
I've not had a great result on the scales for week 2, so I'm having to re-rally for the second half of the month.

Biggest challenge in the last week?
Finding time to exercise, which is usually a big boost for me. I think this has been my downfall.

Best diet moment in the last week?
Coping better with the weekend. This is usually where I go wrong, but I made better food choices last weekend!

What would your top shedtember tip be?
Not to let small setbacks stop you on your way to your end goal!

Weight loss in the last week?
0.5lbs

Total weight loss to date?
2lbs

Anything you would like to add?
It's been harder this last week, and as I'm fairly close to my goal weight it can be a struggle losing those last few excess pounds. However, I'm just trying to keep my end goal in mind and stay motivated! I'm also reminding myself that if the weight comes off slowly, it's more likely to stay off!

We think you're both doing a great job, ladies - keep it up!

Why Diet Chef is great value for money...

Something that comes up a lot in feedback, from both customers and would-be customers, is the cost of Diet Chef.

We do appreciate that £185 a month is a no small sum of money for many people, and we accept that Diet Chef is not necessarily going to be a good fit for everyone’s budget.

That said, according the Office for National Statistics, the average UK consumer spends £73 a week on food, booze, takeaways and snacks, so we do think that Diet Chef delivers excellent value for money.

Let’s look at the numbers…

On our 12 week plan you get 28 days of food for £185…that works out £46.25 a week, or just £6.61 per day, for a breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack.

To put that into context, here are some other things that will cost you roughly the same as a day of Diet Chef food:

1 supermarket lunchtime ‘meal deal’ and a takeaway latte
1 Burger King Double Whopper meal
1 portion of fish & chips
1.5 pints of lager
1 bottle of wine
0.5 large takeaway pizza

If you are someone who buys lunch, chocolate, cans of soda, coffees or other snacks whilst out and about, it quickly adds up. Just a couple of pub visits could easily amount to an entire week worth of Diet Chef food!

What you get on Diet Chef…

We provide three meals and a snack per day – all calorie counted, portion controlled and ready in just a few minutes. You  simply add a few 'extras', like fruit, vegetables and a bit of dairy, then enjoy.

However, on Diet Chef you are getting more than just food. We know from the feedback we receive that many of our customers lack time, kitchen confidence or motivation and willpower, when it comes to devising and executing a healthy eating plan. Typically, they have tried every diet and healthy eating regime under the sun, but not had any lasting success.

For many, breaking bad eating habits and changing their relationship with food is a huge, daunting task. If you feel able to take the challenge on your own, then that's great! But there are lots of people out there who need a little bit of additional guidance and support to get started.

Convenience, structure, portion control…

Diet Chef can give people who are losing the battle against the budge the initial structure and confidence boost they need, by making weight loss as easy as possible. We also remove some of the exposure to bad food temptations, like the "naughty aisles" in the supermarket.

Our meal plan is designed to facilitate a healthy, sustainable weight loss of 1-2 lbs per week, in line with UK Government guidelines. Our customers get to enjoy a range of proper, tasty and filling meals, with minimal preparation work or planning required, whilst learning what a balanced diet and normal portion sizes look like.

Team Diet Chef shedtember update - week 1

Last week we published a blog post about a couple of our colleagues, Catriona and Stacey, taking part in shedtember (click here to check it out) - and we promised you a weekly progress report.

So here is our week one update, checking in on our "shedtember champions" one week into their journey!

Stacey Cheung

How are you finding shedtember so far?
Great! I feel like I've got more energy from cutting back and exercising more, which is a fantastic motivator to keep going.

Biggest challenge in the last week?
Sticking to my plan whilst socialising over the weekend. I need to try harder with that, this coming weekend.

Best diet moment in the last week?
Exercising 5 out of 7 days during the week really kick started me for the month.

What’s your mantra this week?
Reminding myself why I started and, if I keep sticking to it, how much better I will feel at the end of the month. Also, not letting small slip ups put me off.

Weight loss in the last week?
1.5lbs

Catriona Liddle

How are you finding shedtember so far?
Actually I've been stunned how easy it has been. I've not been hungry at all and am enjoying the food too.

Biggest challenge in the last week?
Letting everyone know my start weight! I was horrified when I stood on the scales initially.

Best diet moment in the last week?
The 12 mile cycle ride with my super-fit friend Linda on Sunday. I managed to complete it despite not having been on a bike for years! I'm sure that burned off more than a few calories, especially the uphill bits. Yay!

What’s your mantra this week?
Keep going, it's easier than you think, and remember your goal.

Weight loss in the last week?
4lbs

Anything you would like to add?
I'm someone who has never been a big milk drinker, or breakfast eater, so I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I have been enjoying the porridge for breakfast. Definitely worth a try for any milk haters out there, and it really does help keep you from mid-morning snacking.

Well done, ladies!
